Redevelopment
The Redevelopment of the Union is going to be a big issue in 2013/2014 and that is why I have made it one of the key areas that I am going to focus on.
It is absolutely essential that we keep all students informed about what will be happening at each stage of the redevelopment, so that all events, services and societies can continue to run as undisturbed as possible.
Additionally we need to ensure that there are alternatives to any rooms which are made unavailable throughout this redevelopment. I have already spoken to the University and the Union and they have said that negotiations could be made with places such as Younger Hall, marquees on University grounds and the potential for the use of the University building in Guardbridge. There are plenty of places throughout the University which can be made available to student societies during this period of change, and we need to work together to make sure that this information is available to all.
Some students are going to be more affected by the Redevelopment than others, specifically those students who enter the University in 2012 or 2013. We need to make sure that the experiences that these students have are just as fantastic, regardless of the redevelopment of the Union.
I also want to make this redevelopment to be YOUR redevelopment, so that when it comes to the final product you can say that it is YOUR Union. I would work to have online polls on the new Union website (being redeveloped this Summer) so that you can have a say on various aspects of the design. There are, of course, some things that are already agreed upon; but you can help us when choosing chairs for the coffee shop, or the tables in the bar. Let's get YOU involved.
